A DUBLIN man has been granted bail but barred from being in the front seat of a car after he was charged in connection with a driving rampage in Dublin on Wednesday night.

At around 10pm an Eircom van was taken at George's Street South and driven at high speed until it came to a stop in Ranelagh Village after colliding with a number of vehicles.
Gardai arrested four people in Ranelagh in connection with the incident and father-of-one Shane Connell, aged 26,was brought to appear before Judge Bryan Smyth at Dublin District Court this evening.
Garda Nathan Burke told Judge Smyth that Mr Connell, with an address at Belcamp Grove, Priorswood, Dublin, is charged with unlawful use of a stolen van and he added that the man made no reply when cautioned.
He lodged objections to bail based on the “nature and seriousness” of the charge and alleged that the accused, who has not yet entered a plea, stole the van at George's St South at 9.50pm on Wednesday.
During the bail hearing, the court heard that the van was observed driving erratically before taking a sharp turn towards Kevin St. Gardai pursued it as it sped on the wrong side of the road and broke a red light, it was alleged.
All four wheels were off the road as the van passed over speed ramps, Gda Burke informed the judge, adding that oncoming traffic had to take evasive action.
The court heard that the van was driven against the flow of traffic on Charlemont Street where it allegedly mounted a footpath to bypass cars.
