Wife of former acting governor of Bayelsa state, Binabo Martha, kidnapped


Martha Binabo, 48, the wife of former acting governor of Bayelsa state and currently House of Reps member, Nestor Binabo (pictured above), was kidnapped yesterday June 29th at her warehouse in Bayelsa by five gunmen who wore military uniform.

Naked man on tracks halts DART services for commuters

Train commuters faced delays yesterday evening after a naked man was spotted on railway tracks in south Dublin.

Services for DART users were halted for approximately 40 minutes as the man initially refused to get off the tracks.

Water charge debt needs to reach €500 before being deducted from wages



People would have to have unpaid water bills of at least €500 before they are taken to court for the money to be deducted from their salary, welfare or pensions.
The Government has today published its civil debt legislation, which removes the threat of jail from people who do not pay debts such as water charges.

One in five crimes reported to gardaí never recorded



18% of crimes reported to Gardaí in 2011 do not appear to have been recorded on the PULSE computer system, the CSO reports.
A review carried out by the CSO into the quality of garda crime data has also found that 3% of crimes recorded that year were incorrectly classified in the wrong crime category.

US gay marriage: Robert Mugabe asks Obama to marry him


Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has challenged US President Barack Obama by asking his hand in marriage. His comment comes at the back of the legalization of gay marriage in the US by the Supreme Court.

Indonesian military plane crashes into residential area


No fewer than 100 people were killed after an Indonesian military plane, C-130 Hercules carrying 113 passengers crashed into Medan, the third largest residential area in Indonesia.

According to Indonesia's Air force chief, Air Marshall Agus Supriatna, the pilot told the control tower that the plane needed to turn back because of engine trouble. "The plane crashed while it was turning right to return to the airport," Supriatna said.

Also speaking, police chief of Medan city Mardiaz Dwihananto, said several bodies had been recovered from the wreckage.
