The family of a young Irish woman who survived a plane crash in California have said it's a miracle she survived.

Collette Kenny (26), from Carrigallen in Co Leitrim, was travelling in a light aircraft as part of a sight-seeing trip in California when it crashed into a mobile tower killing experienced pilot William Dalo (55) at around midday on Sunday.

A Dublin dad heroically dived into the sea in a doomed bid to save his son and his son’s girlfriend after a freak wave swept them away. Barry Ryan (51) drowned alongside his son’s girlfriend, Niamh O’Connor (20), in the tragedy in Baltimore.

The Ryans, originally from Dublin, are members of the Ryan family which founded retail giant Penneys,
It’s believed that Ms O’Connor, from Glanmire in Cork, was swept out to sea from rocks while admiring the Beacon beauty spot outside the west Cork village just after 6pm yesterday.

Children to travel on public transport for free for two weeks

CHILDREN aged between four and 18 years old will enjoy a fortnight of free travel on public transport services from next Monday.

Holders of child Leap cards will be entitled to free travel on Dublin Bus, Luas, DART, short-hop commuter rail in Dublin and Bus Eireann city services in Dublin and surrounding counties, Cork, Limercick, Galway and Waterford.


Suicide bombers attack hospital in Maiduguri

Two suicide bombers this morning attacked the Molai Leprosy/General Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno state. They only killed themselves and injured two others. Eyewitnesses say the first suicide bomber detonated his explosives as he tried to gain access into the hospital while the second one detonated his behind the hospital.

The bodies of the three Irish holidaymakers killed in Tunisia could be flown home as soon as today.
Lorna Carty from Co Meath and Larry and Martina Hayes from Athlone were gunned down by Seifeddine Rezgui at a resort in Sousse, in an attack linked to the so-called Islamic State.
Staff from the Department of Foreign Affairs are working with the families to finalise arrangements for the repatriation of their loved ones.
