Officer Jerad Gale, who was given the highest honor of Champaign’s Officer of the Year on March 30th in his department in Illinois, was arrested on Tuesday after he was accused of strangling and raping two women.
He was accused of sexual assault in 2007 for which he was not charged, and later, between 2012 and 2013, when he sexually assaulted two other victims on separate occasions. Officer Gale was also accused of strangling one of his victims in 2013. Arrest warrants were issued in the two separate counties and Gale’s bond was set at $250,000.
The case in Piatt County involves one felony count of criminal sexual assault that took place in July of 2012. Conviction for this incident is punishable by 5 to 15 years in prison.
The case in Champaign County involves three counts, including criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual assault, and aggravated criminal domestic battery. This incident happened on November 9, 2013, and punishment for those counts range from 3 to 7 years to 6 to 30 years.
