Thugs smash up commuter train in front of terrified passengers


Gardai arrested two after the young vandals broke windows and pulled an emergency brake


Young vandals smashed windows and pulled an emergency brake on a packed commuter train this morning.
Gardai responded to a scene in Leixlip, Co Kildare at around 8am after rail services were disrupted by three men.
They were on board the 05.40 Longford to Dublin train when the windows were broken and the brake pulled.
The train came to a stop a few hundred metres short of Lexilip station, while gardai were called.
The driver did make an attempt to start up the train, but the handles were pulled again.
Once the young men were aware that the authorities were on the way, they left the train and made their way down the train tracks.
Gardai are understood to be on the tracks in hot pursuit. They later caught up to and arrested two of the youths.
The train has been delayed for over 40 minutes, with services between Maynooth and Clonsilla temporarily suspended.
