Afghan translator abandoned by the UK is tortured and executed
Known to the UK soldiers he served with as Popal, the Afghan military interpreter was tortured and murdered after being captured in Iran while using people smugglers to flee the Taliban.
Sources say his many pleas for help from the UK authorities were ignored, with officials claiming there was not sufficient evidence that his life was in danger to take action. The revelation comes after an SAS interpreter called Chris (above, right) revealed how he prepared to pay smugglers £5,000 to take him journey along the same route from Afghanistan, through Iran and into Europe via Turkey (as depicted above), because Britain had abandoned him.
