Man (39) pleads not guilty to murder of fellow Nigerian native on Swords main street

A 39-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to murdering a fellow Nigerian native on the main street of a North Dublin town in 2013.
Jooda Akanbi of Ashton Avenue, Applewood, Swords in Dublin was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court this morning.
He was charged with murdering 45-year-old Taiwo Jamani on November 13th, 2013 on Main Street, Swords.
He was also charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Mr Jamani on October 10th, 2013.
Dressed in a black suit and cream shirt, he stood up and pleaded not guilty to both charges.
Mr Justice Paul Carney was told that Mr Jamani had lived at The Bakery, George’s Hill, Balbriggan in Dublin and that both men were originally from Nigeria.
He then swore in a jury of five women and seven men to hear the trial, which will begin tomorrow and is expected to last two weeks.
