Woman dies in tragic Luas accident in Dublin

The incident happened on Monday morning on Dublin city's red line
A woman has died in an accident on the Luas line this morning.

An incident involving a BMW and a Luas tram disrupted transport in Dublin city centre this morning at around 8.45am.
Gardai and the fire brigade attended a scene at the junction of Jervis St and Abbey St Upper on the red line.
Reports soon followed that a woman, in her 30s, was injured in the accident and was being treated on the roadside, but died at the scene.
A horrified onlooker told how he saw the accident unfolding before his eyes.
He told irishmirror.ie: "I was the first to arrive on the scene.
It was horrible. She had been hit and was lying on the ground.
"I just tried to help her."
Services were suspended between Smithfield and The Point while the situation was cleared.
The line was still running from Tallaght and Saggart up to Smithfield and Luas tickets were still valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of the disruption.
A garda statement read: "The incident involving a car and a Luas tram resulted in a female pedestrian being struck by a car.
"The woman, in her 30s, was later pronounced dead at the scene.
"The road is closed at the scene and Garda forencis collision investigators are carrying out an examination of the area.
"The Luas line is closed between Smithfield and Connolly stops."
The scene has been cleared and transport services are back to normal as of 11.20am.
