Katheryn Deprill was found just hours after being born - prompting a nationwide hunt in the US for the teenage mum amid fears she could need medical support
A daughter who became known as the “Burger King Baby” after she was abandoned in a restaurant 27 years ago has been reunited with her mum.
Katheryn Deprill was found in a toilet , just hours after being born, prompting a nationwide hunt in the US for the teenage mum amid fears she could need medical support.
But she was never found and earlier this month Katheryn appealed on Facebook for her mum to come forward, saying she was not angry at being abandoned in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
She wrote: “I want her to know that I am not mad at her for what she did, however I have so many questions to ask her and also to start a relationship with my biological mother."
The mum spotted the message - and at the reunion the mystery over the teenager’s tragic act was finally solved.
Katheryn’s mum had been raped while travelling abroad and became pregnant. She was desperate to keep the pregnancy a secret from her parents.
“She left the baby in a location where the baby would be found and cared for,” said their lawyer Jim Waldron.
“She kissed the baby on the forehead ... and left.”
After the emotional meeting Katheryn said her mum was only 17 and extremely upset at the time.
"She left me somewhere she knew I’d be found. She did not want to throw me away.”
The mum declined to be named, “to avoid the limelight’.
The reunion was also attended by Katheryn’s adoptive mother and her natural mum’s husband.
