The Newcastle bridge, which tilts twice a day to allow boats through, got stuck about 1.30pm today for the first time in its 15-year history.
The issue bamboozled scores of pedestrians and cyclists - who were forced to make their way to the other end of the quayside and across the Tyne Bridge to continue their journey.
