Motorists advised of traffic restriction for St Patrick's Day parades

Parades to mark this year's St. Patrick’s Festival get underway across the world and around Ireland today.

Thousands are expected in Dublin to witness the capital's celebrations with floats and bands expected in towns across Ireland.
The Dublin parade gets underway from midday and a number of lane closures are already in place.
This year's event is all about the past and is part of a three year theme: "Let's Make History".
Three thousand dancers, artists and bandmembers will march along the parade route through the city centre and they will be led by the grand marshall, former Tour De France winner Stephen Roche.
The Galway City parade starts at 11.30am, ahead of celebrations in the capital at midday where participants will gather at Parnell Square.
Festivities in Waterford and Kilkenny commence at 1pm while the Limerick parade kicks off at 2pm.
Motorists are also being advised of traffic restrictions in towns as a result of the festivities
Noel Byrne from AA Roadwatch says drivers should allow extra time for their journeys.
Also, more than 100 iconic buildings across the globe will go 'green' this St. Patrick's day.
The Sydney Opera House was the first to go green when the initiative started in 2010.
The London Eye, New York's Empire State Building, the Little Mermaid in Copenhagen and the Sky Tower in Auckland will be among some of the landmark buildings taking part in the festivities.
For the first time, the Great Wall of China has turned the ‘Green Wall of China’ to celebrate this St. Patrick's Day.
The chief executive of Tourism Ireland, Niall Gibbons, says the initiative has gone from strength to strength.
