'Murder probe' as drain body found

Detectives are expected to launch a murder investigation after the discovery of a man's body in a drain in the Midlands.

The victim has not been formally identified but is believed to be a 47-year-old man who lived in a caravan at Kilbride, Clara, Co Offaly, close to where the remains were discovered.
That man had been released from prison last month after a three-year sentence for false imprisonment. It is understood he is well known to gardai in the area.
Gardai have sealed off the scene following the find at around 8:45 am this morning.
Forensic investigators are to carry out a full examination while State Pathologist Marie Cassidy has been asked to attend.
Initial indications suggest the man met a violent death and a full-scale murder inquiry will be launched.
