Police officers poisons her colleagues and senior citizens
A former police officer was arrested, charged and convicted of attempted murder after pouring bleach into the drinks of her colleagues at a senior citizen care facility, prosecutors in the United Kingdom said.
23-year-old Melissa Swift, who worked as a special agent with the West Midlands Police, told the Birmingham Crown Court that she poured bleach into drinks that everyone at the care facility had access to including her sister.
Swift will be sentenced next month, after pleading guilty to attempted murder and threatening to kill her estranged sister.
According to the police investigation, 32 senior citizens and staff members of the Goldfield Court, became sick with food poisoning.
They were taken to a hospital after complaining of nausea, diarrhea and severe headaches. One person suffered stroke-like symptoms, but has since made a complete recovery.
Swift admitted that she poured bleach into the drinks that were stored in a public fridge in order to kill her colleagues and senior citizens.
Luckily, no one was seriously injured as a result of the attack.
Police said that Swift sent anonymous blood-stained letters to her sister and a colleague in which she threatened to kill them.
Swift has been remanded in custody pending sentencing.
