What started as the perfect day for a woman ended with her home burning down.

A man of New Jersey, proposed to his girlfriend on her birthday before cooking breakfast for her and the family. Isaiah Cox said that he was preparing breakfast in his Millville home around 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, when he heard his son crying.

He left the kitchen and went to get the 1-year-old child, but when he returned, the kitchen was on fire.

The cabinets had apparently caught on fire from the oil that was left unattended on the stove, according to firefighters.

His attempts to put the fire were not successful. The newly engaged man, grabbed his fiancee, his 5-month-old daughter, 1-year-old son, his sister and dog, and fled from the home.

Firefighters arrived and it took three hours to put out the flames. The second and third floors of the building were severely damaged by the fire.

No one was injured in the incident. The American Red Cross is helping Cox and two other families who were left homeless after the fire.
