The child brides of BRITAIN

In demand: Esme is just 15 but has already been asked for as a bride. Luckily, her grandmother says no

Under the traditional Pachiv code, Roma gypsies must marry when they hit puberty - usually around 13 or 14 - and pay up to £5,000 in bride price.
Over the last decade, more than 50,000 Roma have come to Britain - and their tradition has come with them. Unlike in Hungary and Romania however, the custom often meets with police attention on British shores with some of the girls being taken into care and sent back to school.
