Comedienne Joan Rivers dies at age 81
Joan Rivers died this afternoon at the age of 81. The legendary comedienne passed away surrounded by her family at New York's Mount Sinai hospital, after she was rushed there on Thursday when she went into cardiac arrest during throat surgery at another clinic. She has been at the centre of American entertainment since her breakthrough in 1965 when she appeared on the Tonight Show.
The mother of one, daughter Melissa, and doting grandmother to Melissa's son Cooper has most recently hosted Fashion Police on the E! network. The clinic where she went into cardiac arrest during minor throat surgery is facing an investigation.
