The Peruvian government has written to UK authorities seeking clearance to let Melissa Reid, 20, from Lenzie near Glasgow (pictured main with Michaella McCollum and inset with her mother Debbie), complete her six-year jail term here. The urgent 'repatriation application' is being considered by the Scottish government and could see Reid return to her home country within weeks. It is understood Reid would be considered a low-risk prisoner in the UK and would serve her time in a low-security wing - meaning she could qualify for home leave or even be released while wearing a tag. Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill has assured her parents that he will give the move the green light, telling them: 'She is one of us'.
