Two people have been shot dead in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv last night (right), following the fatal stabbing of a protester on Thursday in nearby Donetsk.
Violence in the largely pro-Russian east of Ukraine is continuing to escalate ahead of a controversial vote on whether Crimea should become part of Russia. Tensions have also spread to Moscow as tens of thousands gathered to support and oppose President Putin's plans (pictured left).
