Father-of-one Alex Lewis, 34, thought he had a common cold but was rushed to hospital after his skin turned purple and he found blood in his urine

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT. Alex Lewis, 34, spent a week in a coma after his major organs shut down.
He had to have both of his legs and his left arm amputated after doctors told him it was his only chance of survival. The father-of-one, from Stockbridge, Hampshire, initially had a common cold but his symptoms worsened and he was rushed to hospital after his skin turned purple. He was diagnosed with a blood infection which developed into septicaemia and toxic shock syndrome and doctors warned he had a three per cent chance of survival.
