A drunk pilot was arrested just moments before he boarded his passenger jet.
The 58-year-old was breath-tested outside the plane after a cabin crew member alerted police.
The co-pilot was about to fly to Mexico from Madrid.
His airline, Aeromexico, said: “He didn’t resist arrest although the flight left late because we had to look for a substitute pilot.”
He registered 0.42mg of alcohol per litre of air – five times the limit for flying and nearly double the Spanish drink-drive maximum. It is a criminal offence in Spain for pilots to touch alcohol within eight hours of a flight. Some airlines ban pilots from drinking alcohol up to 16 hours before a flight.
