Toronto new boy Defoe ‘happy to be in the USA’

Toronto’s new signing Jermain Defoe may need to brush up on his geography in his new surroundings in North America.

The English striker has left North London for the MLS and already has been greeted enthusiastically by the Toronto supporters.
Defoe was unveiled at a press conference yesterday where he spoke of his eagerness to pull on the new jersey and display his talents in front of a new audience, though he also showed that he may be a little unsure of just where Toronto is.
“I’m happy to be in the USA,” he enthused to a raucous crowd, who started chanting “this is your house” repeatedly throughout.
He won’t be figuring on Mastermind anytime soon, but as long as he finds the back on the net for Toronto, we doubt the normally placid Canadians will be too perturbed.
