A British pensioner has been raped, murdered and set alight in Bulgaria after moving to the country just three months ago with her disabled husband.
Expat Jan Bennett, 67, was attacked while she out walking her dogs on Thursday and her charred remains were found just 200 metres from her home.
She had only moved to the area recently with her husband Nick, after moving from Altinkum in western Turkey.
Officials in Bulgaria have said she died near her home in the village of Malomir,The Telegraph has reported.
Her body is believed to have been set alight following the brutal attack and a local man, Ivan Georgiev, 40, has been arrested.
Police found DNA linking the suspect to the crime scene and he was arrested on Saturday.
A memorial service is being held in Turkey on Sunday in Mrs Bennett's memory.
Roz Millington wrote on Facebook: 'I am broken hearted about Jan. Her ordeal doesn't bear thinking about, such a lovely, funny, caring lady - I shall miss her.
'My heart goes out to her family, in particular her husband, who hasn't really yet recovered from his own illness and to her friends - I shall miss seeing her posts, the jokes and the stories of her life, told in such an amusing way. Bless you Jan.'
A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office told MailOnline: 'We can confirm reports of the death of a British national in Bulgaria and are providing consular assistance.'
