GARDAI have confirmed that they are investigating a report of an attempted kidnapping of a young boy earlier this week.
The father of a six-year-old boy in Ardamine in Wexford has said that a man tried to grab his son while he was out playing in an estate.
The father said the boy was playing with a group of friends on a green area in the Dune Haven estate when a silver Nissan Almera, with a man and woman inside, approached.
"The man got out and went over to the children and asked them if they wanted to get in the car, because he had sweets in the car," he said.
He added that most of the children ran into a nearby garden, while his son started to run home.
"He tried to grab him, but he didn't lay his hands on him," he said.
"He said that when he turned to look back, the man looked real angry and had his fists clenched.
"It's extremely worrying for the area. It's shocking, it really is."
Gardaí confirmed they received a report of the incident.
