Security was increased Monday at the University of Maryland after a caller left a disturbing voicemail detailing a threat against President Obama‘s niece, who was on campus to play in the Princeton-Maryland NCAA tournament, a source tells USA Today.
Leslie Robinson is a freshman forward at Princeton.
The source, who was not authorized to speak publicly because of security issues, says police at the University of Maryland in College Park received an 8-minute voicemail Monday afternoon in which a woman said a man armed with a 9 millimeter Glock was driving around campus, the source tells the news outlet.
Via USA Today:
The caller linked the man’s appearance on campus to [Monday night’s] game and Leslie Robinson, the daughter of Craig Robinson, Michelle Obama‘s brother, who is a freshman forward at Princeton. In addition to normal game security, undercover security officers were near the Princeton bench, the person said. Secret Service officers also were in the arena due to the presence of Supreme Court justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.
Princeton coach Courtney Banghard said she was aware of the incident, however, Robinson was not told of the threat, the source said.
“Leslie’s safe. She’s in my locker room. No one loves her like I do,” Banghart said Monday. “And she’s an important part of our team.”
In a sentiment we echo, Banghart told USA Today on Monday, “keep the freaks out of the gym.”
