Abuja Residents Protest Alleged Postponement Of Election


Some Abuja residents this morning stormed the Unity Fountain to protest the alleged plans by the Government to stop INEC from conducting the forthcoming 2015 general elections by asking the body to postpone it.

The protest which was organized by the civic group, National Consensus Movement and commenced from the Unity Fountain, saw protesters marching in the directions of Eagle Square, a premium event centre in the state, but as they filed past the Federal Secretariat, the protesters were blocked by officers of the Nigeria police, who asked them to go back. Not deterred by their presence, the protesters carrying different placards which reads; “Nigerians say no to postponement, we want election”.

“Democracy must survive.”

“Our vote of confidence to Jega. Give us elections. February 14.”

“Election must hold on 14th of February” and “GEJ, you claimed you have done 20,000km of roads, 

why are you afraid of elections?” went on chanting, “ Election must hold, Election must hold.”
