Woman charged with stabbing her cousin to death

HERNANDO, Miss. — A Hernando woman is in jail, charged with stabbing her own cousin to death.

Police say 19-year-old Tomeshia Odom stabbed Jasmine Smith outside the Hernando apartment complex where they both lived.
This is the first murder in Hernando since October, 1996.
Police said Odom stabbed her cousin Jasmine Smith Tuesday night in the 900 block of Hill Street.
Family members said Odom attacked Smith over a fight about a man.
“Tomeshia thinks she wants Jasmine’s ex-boyfriend, which Tomeshia called her yelling about. But she ain’t,” Jasmine’s cousin, Vainisha Smith, said.
Vainisha Smith said Odom posted a threat Facebook before the attack, but deleted her page after the stabbing, “Tomeshia was like, ‘B—- if you want this — whooping you can come out here and get it.’ Jasmine is the type of person, if you call her out she’ll come to you.”
Now family members prepare to bury one and say goodbye to another.
“She was a sweetheart,” Payne said of Smith. “That was my cousin. I love her. I miss her. We’re going to miss her.”
Odom is charged with murder and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
