New 'honour killing' murder shocks India after bride's father allegedly strangles her
The death of Bhavna Yadav (pictured left, and again right with her husband Abhishek Seth), a 21-year-old student from a leading New Dehli University, is the latest of a series of cruel honour killings to have shocked India.
Police allege Bhavna was strangled by her parents and uncle because she had secretly married 24-year-old Abhishek a few days earlier - a relationship which undermined their family's 'prestige' (pictured inset is a relative holding the couple's marriage certificate). After being asked to return home, her parents beat her, strangled her, then took her body back to their home town for cremation, according to police.
