A Manhattan man was shot 15 minutes after being released from prison after serving a 15 year sentence.
According to AP, the 33-year-old man was released from Otisville State Prison in Orange County around 9:45 a.m. on Thursday. Although he had been given a train ticket to a halfway home in Manhattan, the victim was offered a lift by a driver in a white Hyundai. They drove about a mile until they were close to the Otisville Metro-North station.
"There was certainly one person driving, and another was secreted in the back seat of the car or the trunk," said New York State Police Captain Pierce Gallagher at a press conference. That person in the trunk or back seat got out, shot the victim twice, then fled.
The victim was able to get to the train station and got help; he underwent surgery at Westchester Medical Center and is in stable condition. He also has reportedly identified his shooter to the police. "We’re focusing on the New York City area for the search," Capt. Gallagher said. "It’s fair to say we have a very good idea who we’re looking for."
The Post's sources say that the gunman "had a beef with the victim for snitching on him." The Post also claims that two suspects have now been arrested on the Upper East Side, but police could not confirm that.
