Cut sugar intake to just SIX teaspoons a day and stop giving children 'dangerously sweet' fizzy drinks

The hidden menace

Children should not be given fizzy drinks as they contain dangerous amounts of sugar and adults should cut their intake to six teaspoons a day, UN health chiefs said. Current WHO guidelines say sugars should make up less than 10 per cent of total energy intake per day for adults and children. However, experts say cutting this to five per cent would have additional health benefits.
