Crooks produce rice made from plastic to sell to unsuspecting consumers




Customs officials in Nigeria, have seized multiple bags of plastic rice that were smuggled into the country to sell to unsuspecting consumers.

Lagos customs chief Haruna Mamudu, said that it is unknown how much of the plastic rice was sold to the public.

Officials seized a total of 102 sacks of plastic rice that were labeled “Best Tomato Rice.” An agent who noticed that something was wrong with the rice, cooked a batch, which turned out to be very sticky.

The plastic rice was shipped from China. A sample was sent to a laboratory, and tests confirmed that the rice were plastic. So far, no injuries have been reported.

Investigators said that whoever made this fake rice did an exceptionally good job as it looks and feels just like the real thing.

Officials warned consumers to be extra careful before consuming suspicious food. So far, no arrests have been made.
