Cyclist in his 60s killed in Dublin hit and run crash



Gardai are appealing for the driver of the car to come forward after the car described as a silver Volkswagen Golf failed to remain at the scene

A cyclist has died after a hit and run in Dublin last night.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward after the 62-year-old man was struck by a car at around 6.30pm yesterday evening.
The collision occurred on the Clontarf Road at the junction with Howth Road.
The cyclist was rushed to Beaumont Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The car involved has been described as a silver coloured Volkswagen Golf, and Gardai say it failed to remain at the scene after the tragic crash.
A car matching the description was seized by Gardai in Marino and will undergo a thorough technical and forensic investigation.
The scene was examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and the road has since reopened to traffic.
It is believed a post mortem will be carried out later today.
Gardai are appealing for the driver of the car to come forward, and have extended their appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or may have seen a silver Volkswagen Golf, with an 05-D registration plate, in the vicinity of Fairview , Clontarf road and Marino area between 6.15pm – 6.45pm to contact the incident room at Clontarf Garda Station.
