Rescued migrant gives birth to baby girl on board LÉ Niamh



Baby 'Destiny' delivered at 5.46pm aboard by Defence Forces medics, mother & child taken 2 Sicily by Coast Guard for postnatal care


A woman rescued from the Mediterranean has given birth to a baby girl on board Irish naval vessel the LÉ Niamh.
The baby who's been named "Destiny" was delivered by Irish medics this afternoon.
Mother and baby have been transferred to an Italian Coast Guard vessel and are doing well.
They are now on their way to the Port of Trapani in Sicily, to receive post natal care.
