A Fox News reporter was caught on live television calling World No 1 golfer Rory McIlroy a 'leprechaun'.
In the segment, contributors were discussing McIlroy, who has ruptured a ligament in his ankle casting doubts over his participation in the British Open.
While speaking on camera, Fox 'Outnumbered' co-host Harris Faulkner said the group were "still reacting to that Rory McIlroy story", before being interrupted by an unseen reporter.
"He's a leprechaun, I can't stand him," she can be heard saying.
Not long after the incident, Ms Faulkner took to Twitter to say she didn't hear incident when live on air.
"Ugh, did NOT hear that said when we were live. MY reaction was re: his reputation of the not-so-nice fiance firing," she wrote.
The World Number One golfer, who is from Co Down, took to social media earlier today to share a picture of himself in crutches with his foot in a cast boot.
He said:" Total rupture of left ATFL (ankle ligament) and associated joint capsule damage in a soccer kickabout with friends on Saturday. Continuing to asses extent of injury and treatment plan day by day. Rehab already started.
"Working hard to get back as soon as I can."
A spokesman for McIlroy said he has not ruled himself out of the British Open, where he is set to defend his title.
