One thousand migrants including a pregnant woman

Royal Navy rescues migrants from Mediterranean death boats off the shore of Libya

UPDATED Pregnant women and children are among the 700 migrants that have already been rescued by the Royal Navy in its biggest operation in the Mediterranean so far. By the end of today, the 19,000-tonne ship expects to have picked up 1,000 people, fleeing from the war-torn country.
Those on board are being given water and bread after enduring 10-hours on the dangerously overcrowded vessels. Many had nothing more than the clothes they stood in. Senior Royal Navy officers leading Britain's Mediterranean rescue mission off the Libyan coast said 500,000 refugees are massing in Libya to try and flee to Europe on the migrant boats that have killed thousands already. David Cameron said the flagship had been deployed because the UK was a 'country with a conscience.
