The British mum killed by a 'drunk' doctor in C-section blunder
Xynthia Hawke, 28, died during childbirth after Belgian anaesthetist Helga Wauters (inset) inserted a tube into the expecting mother's oesophagus instead of windpipe.
Fighting back tears outside the French home where they settled a few months ago, her partner Yannick Balthazar (pictured with Ms Hawke, right), 33, said: ‘It is a very difficult time for us. We are in mourning.' Wauters, who is Belgian, now faces five years behind bars after being charged with aggravated manslaughter. The doctor admitted a ‘pathological problem with alcohol’ and on the night of Ms Hawke's death was said to be slurring her words to the extent that she ‘could not be understood'.
