World's smallest country

island

The tiny state of Sealand, main picture, lies six miles off the port of Felixstowe and covers just 5,290sq ft, but its inhabitants insist they are independent of mainland Britain.
Seized by Roy and Joan Bates, inset, in the 1960s, it has proclaimed its independence ever since. Despite being recognised by no other country, it looks to the Bates' son, 'Prince Michael' Bates as its ruling monarch, and has its own football team, the Sealand All Stars. Residents have Sealand dollars and Sealand stamps, and produce their own drinking water, but admit they have to import most goods from mainland Britain.
