Another day of shame for India's police

Horrific: Villagers gather around the bodies of two teenage sisters found hanging from a tree in Katra village, India, after they were allegedly gang-raped by a group of men including at least one police officer

Hundreds of angry villagers crowded around the tree (left) in Katra village to prevent authorities from taking the girls down until the suspects were arrested.
Villagers accused the chief of the local police station of ignoring a complaint by the girls' father on Tuesday night when they went missing. Young girls (inset) also took to the streets holding banners in protest at the police investigation. Amid conflicting reports, police are believed to have arrested four men, including at least one police officer, later in the day and were searching for three more suspects.
