A Rujeko High school married teacher was involved in a fatal road accident while chasing her boyfriend after she caught him intimate with another woman on Tuesday night. Petronella Rukondo, aged 39, who was accompanied by her friend Moreblessing Uzande, a hairdresser, died on the spot, while the latter was rushed Concession Hospital where she was treated and discharged after the BMW they were travelling in allegedly veered off the road and crashed into a tree.
The horrific accident happened in a dramatic speed chase after Petronella caught her married boyfriend George Moros, caressing another woman at Afro Village Bottle store at around midnight, impeccable sources told our reporters. Reports are that Petronella took her friend Moreblessing after it reached her ears that George was clubbing with an unidentified lady after he failed to get to their rendezvous at the local bar.
A scuffle ensued and George sped off in his BMW and Petronella chased him in her BMW lading to the accident after she failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the road and hit a huge tree according to Blessing. Glendale revellers who witnessed the scuffle rushed to the scene after they heard a crashing sound a few metres away from the bottle sore as they approached Glendale Police Station.
When reporters arrived on the scene, Rujeko High School Teachers and neighbours were busy taking photographs of the wreckage and the strands of weave left stuck in the tree which the car “climbed”. Narrating the harrowing ordeal, Moreblessing said Petronella failed to negotiate a curve while speeding before the car hit a tree. Moreblessing who was failing to nurse her seven months old baby following her injuries sustained on both hands said it was a miracle that she was alive. ” She was speeding and she failed to negotiate a corner and the car climbed up the tree and I found myself trapped and I did not see Petronella until now,” said Moreblessing.
“Within minutes people gathered and I heard them saying we were all dead and wanted to try restarting the car. Fearing to be further trapped Iknocked the window pane to show them we were still alive, thats when they broke the window and rescued me,” said Blessing unaware of Petronella’s fate. Moreblessing’s husband, Bernad said that on his return from work he was told by the maid that his wife had left their seven months old baby in her custody so that she could attend a funeral. “She left the baby with a maid and I was told that she had gone to attend a funeral and I was aware of the funeral. After attending the funeral they decided to have some beers and they were involved in the accident on their way home,” said Bernard as he defended his wife.
When reporters arrived at Petronella’s funeral wake, her family refused to comment citing that they were waiting for her husband who was based in DRC to come. According to reports gathered by moles, George had become Petronella’s live in boyfriend in the absence of her husband and that the BMW which she crashed was a gift from her husband. Petronella is said to have taken advantage of the absence and had become a well known casual reveller in the area, cruising in her BMW. George who works at Brusta Motors at Shbridge garage in Glendale could not be contacted for comment at the time of writing.
Petronella, who left behind three children, was laid to rest in her home village in Mutare on Saturday.
