The disturbing images were posted on social media site Weibo by Li Jinbang in Guandong province, and quickly went viral before she could delete them.
The photos show the defenceless cat cowering in a cage before it is boiled, stripped of its fur and then placed in a pot to make soup. The woman, who began to receive hate messages after uploading the pictures, defended her actions, saying the animal had been badly injured in a car accident and was simply helping a friend by putting the cat out of its misery.
