in the northeastern state of Assam

The rare Indian rhino was found with its horn hacked off and removed in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary about 28miles east of the city of Guwahati, in the northeastern state of Assam, India.
Forest officials shot dead two of the poachers inside the sanctuary, where 93 of the world's 3,000 Indian rhinos live, after exchanging fire at the scene of the killing.
