GARDAI are investigating an incident in which a patrol car burst into flames.

The incident occurred at approximately 7.30pm in Cullies, Co Cavan on Thursday night while gardai were dealing with a road traffic accident in the area.
Two patrol cars arrived at the scene of the accident, and had closed off a section of the road when the incident occurred.
There was nobody in the car at the time of the incident which gardai believe may have been caused by a mechanical or electrical fault.
A garda spokesperson said: “The guards dealing with the accident just looked around, and there was smoke coming from (one of the) patrol cars.”
“By the time they got the extinguishers out from the other patrol car that was at the scene, the patrol car was fully alight.”
They confirmed that gardai at the scene did not witness anyone approaching the car before it caught fire and that the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
The spokesperson said that the car in question had been completely destroyed and that it would not be able to be used again.
