Some yet-to-be identified persons have bombed and set ablaze the Ahoada East High Court, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The area where the court is located had been under intense tension since December 2013 when the Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice C.N Wali, gave an order barring Hon. Evans Bipi, leader of the group of lawmakers opposed to Governor Rotimi Amaechi, in the Rivers State House of Assembly, from parading himself as Speaker of the Assembly.
The bombing of the court came on the heels of reports that the police and military authorities in Rivers are under pressure to release six suspected armed thugs arrested over the weekend by men of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) in Ogu.
The armed thugs were suspected to have links with some highly placed politicians both in Rivers State and Abuja, the nation’s capital.
