15 year old Wasila Tasi'u, the child bride who poisoned and killed her 35-year-old husband, Umar Sani and his friends in April 2014, has been discharged and acquitted by a Kano High Court sitting in Gezawa today June 9th.
The presiding Judge, Justice Mohammed Yahaya said based on the formal request from the state government asking for the case to be dropped, the court had no choice but to drop it and discharge the accused. "I have no alternative than to pronounce according to law that the application of ‘nolle prosequi’ (unwilling to pursue) is hereby granted. In consequence, therefore, you, Wasila Tasi’u, are hereby discharged.” he said
