Former Chinese Driver Turned Financier Buys Ancient Vase For $14.71m


Chinese business man, Liu Yiqian has splashed out $14.71m today on an ancient vase at an auction which took place in Hong Kong. The simple octagonal piece is an 800-year-old Southern Song Dynasty work tinted milky blue.

The businessman, a taxi driver turned financier is the chairman of investment company Sunline Group and one of China’s wealthiest men.

The 51-year-old first broke the world auction record for Chinese porcelain in April, 2014 when he bought a Ming Dynasty wine cup known as the chicken cup for the sum of $36 million. Liu has also been pictured drinking tea with the wine cup.
