Woman commits suicide after being caught on national TV shoplifting

A woman in the United Kingdom, was very embarrassed when she was caught shoplifting on a reality TV show.

Elizabeth Outram of London, committed suicide on her 30th birthday after being caught shoplifting by the “Caught On Camera” television program, a court has heard.

Outram was found hanging at her home in Hackney, after a night out to celebrate her birthday.
The court was told that Outram, had suffered from bouts of depression, anxiety and panic attacks for many years.

Her mental health had stabilized and she was able to attend a friend’s bachelorette party. Before going to the party, Outram went to the TK Maxx store and changed the price tags on a leather jacket.

She was detained by store personnel and charged with fraud. The incident was captured by a television company that was recording a reality show.

Outram’s older sister, Alexandra, told the court that her sister was traumatized after learning that the incident will be aired on television.

Outram told the television show’s producers that she was receiving psychiatric treatment and that it was not right for them to air the theft, but they claimed that they have a right to use the footage.

Outram Elizabeth attempted suicide with an overdose of antidepressants on the day she was due in court on the fraud charges.

She took her life one month later.

Psychiatric consultant Nicholas Price told the court that Outram’s condition had deteriorated after her arrest. He said that she became very worried about her reputation.

Alexandra Outram said that after the death of her sister, the show’s producers said that they will not broadcast the footage of her theft.
