The children who fight over rotting fruit with pigs and vultures

EXCLUSIVE: The lives of trash-pickers in Rio have been immortalised in a new movie dubbed the 'Brazilian Slumdog Millionaire', but MailOnline visited the film's Jardim Gramacho rubbish dump where the real-life trashpickers eke out a living.
Wesley, eight, Peterson, nine, and Tauan, 10, (left and top right) are forced to sort through rotting lettuces, mangoes, bananas, carrots and potatoes onto the ground to get enough to eat then hope to find reusable cardboard and plastic to sell for up to 80 centavos (20 pence), just down the coast from the paradise of Ipanema (inset and bottom right).
