A police officer who was assigned to catch shoplifters, was caught on video shoplifting a bottle of wine from a store, police in Illinois said.
The Chicago Police Department said that officers who worked in the Organized Crime Division, caught one of their own shoplifting.
According to the police investigation, a security guard at the Costco located at 1430 S. Ashland Avenue, noticed a woman taking a bottle of wine from the shelf and putting it in her shopping cart.
She then moved to the back of the store, where she placed the bottle in her purse. The woman went on to pass the cashiers and leave the store without paying.
42-year-old Katrina Grey was arrested and taken into custody after trying to flee from the scene. When she was asked to hand over all the stolen items, she took out of her bag five bottles of wine and a pair of pink boots.
The items were valued at $115. Grey is a 14-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department, and earns $80,000 a year. She was suspended with pay pending the outcome of her case.
She was charged with petty theft.
