Elizabeth Lauten (pictured), the former communications director for Rep. Stephen Fincher (R-Tenn.) committed a social media faux pas when she took to Facebook to make snarky remarks about Malia Obama, 13 and Sasha Obama, 16. The Republican flack slammed their fashion sense and demeanor when their father President Obama spoke at the annual Thanksgiving Pardon on Nov. 27. “I get you’re both in those awful teen years, but you’re a part of the First Family, try showing a little class,” wrote Lautenin a status update. She also felt compelled to criticize the girl’s parents, President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, for not being good role models.
In the end, Lauten’s acid tongue turned the spotlight on her, as reports of her being arrested twice as a teen — first for shoplifting and then for a traffic offense — have now emerged.
According to The Smoking Gun, Lauten, who resigned on December 1 amid a backlash about her remarks, was far from being a paragon of virtue as a youth. She was collared at the age of 17 on charges of stealing from a Belk department store in her North Carolina hometown. Since Lauten was a first-time offender, the courts went easy on her misdemeanor larceny charge. Reportedly, they only mandated that she be placed in a program that defers prosecution, allowing the charges to be dropped if she stayed out of trouble.
However, Daily Mail reports that Lauten didn’t stay out of trouble. Police nabbed her for speeding and running a red light at the age of 19.
Fast-forward to age 31. Lauten, after offering a lame public apology, has stepped down from her GOP perch. Serves her right.
Do you recall any congressional staffers making nasty comments about that wild Bush first daughter, Jenna?
Remember her? A real “class” act!
