At least six dead after bin lorry smashes into Christmas shoppers in Glasgow city centre
The total number of casualties in the accident is said to run into 'double figures', with at least six feared dead. Photos from the scene show the green lorry mounted the pavement in George Square in the heart of the Scottish city.
The pavement, next to the drop-off point for Queen Street Station, was packed with Christmas shoppers and office workers on their lunch break at the time of the crash. The square was extra busy because it currently has a Christmas ice rink and fairground for the festive season. Police Scotland tweeted: 'We are attending a serious road incident at George Square in Glasgow, which occurred at 2.30pm.'
