Police launch huge hunt to find Britain's most wanted petrol thief
Officers have linked the thief to 29 separate incidents in Devon and Cornwall over the last two years but are unsure if the suspect is a man, woman or a transvestite due to the varying disguises used.
The offender, who police say has stolen thousands of pounds worth of fuel since starting the spree in Plymouth, Devon, in September 2012, always uses a disguise including fake number plates and a wig (circled). Police have managed to link the offences due to the same vehicle - a Vauxhall Zafira - being used every time but have now released CCTV images (pictured) of the suspect in the attempt of tracking them down once and for all. Witnesses who have reported the offender have also been left confused due to the disguises, with 19 describing the suspect as a woman, seven reporting a man and three suggesting the sex is 'indistinguishable '.
